In Romanized Urdu
kyun zayaan'kaar banoon sood faramosh rahoon
fikr-e-farda na karoon mehw-e-gham-e-dosh rahoon
naaley bulbul key sunoon aur hama'tan gosh rahoon
ham'nawa main bhi koi gul hoon keh khamosh rahoon
Jurat amoz meri taab-e-sukhun hai mujh ko
shikwa Allah sey? khakum'badahan hai mujh ko
hai baja shaiwa-e-tasleem mein mash'hoor hain ham
qisah-e-dard sunatey hain keh majboor hain ham
saaz khamosh hain faryad sey ma'moor hain ham
naala aata hai agar lab peh to ma'azoor hain hain
Aey Khuda! shikwa-e-arbaab-e-wafa bhi sun ley
khoogar-e-hamd sey thora sa gila bhi sun ley
Why should I be destructive and remain recckless of betterment?
Think not of the future, remain occupied in today's problems?
Should I hear nightengale's wails, and remain completely silent?
O Companion! Am I some flower so that I may remain silent?
The strength of my poetry is encouraging to me
Woe be to me My remonstrace is against God
It is true that we are famous in the methodes of obeisance
But we are relating our story of pain out of compulsion
Though a silent orchestra, we are full of complaint
If the waiting comes to lips we are excusable
O God! Listen to the remonstrance also from the faithful
Listen to some complaint also from the one accustomed to praise you
Commentary on this poem is comming up - stay tuned
